Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever - Toller

Top Quality Dog Breed

At Rocky Mountain Tollers, we raise exceptional AKC registered Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, the smallest of the retriever breed. First known as the Little River Duck Dog. This breed was developed in the early 19th century in Nova Scotia. The breed was recognized by the CKC in 1945, and by the AKC in 2003.

The breed was specifically bred for duck hunting and tolling, "Tolling" refers to the dog attracting waterfowl by playing in the water, fetching sticks, and attracting the attention of the ducks. When the ducks came close, the hunter will shoot, and the dog will retrieve the downed birds. The ability to "toll" is a vital part of its role.

Tollers have a rich, golden-red coat. Some may have white markings on the nose, chest, feet, or tip of the tail.

Known for their intelligence, high energy levels, and need for mental stimulation, making them well-suited for active families or individuals who can provide exercise and training. They are still used for hunting, especially waterfowl retrieval, and are highly valued in dog sports like agility, obedience, and hunting trials.

Tollers have also found success in search-and-rescue roles and as therapy dogs due to their friendly demeanor and strong work ethic. They are known for being friendly and social, though they can be reserved around strangers.

Our fur babies are part of the family. They love exploring the mountains and rivers with us near our small country town. We stay busy with agility, obedience, training, hiking, and kayaking. Our fur family is raised in a loving and caring home environment. Dedicated to following a responsible breeding program, our focus is on keeping our animals healthy and happy throughout their entire lives.

About Rocky Mountain Tollers

An Honest Dog Breeder

Breeder of Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers

Rocky Mountain Tollers is a well-known Dog Breeder of Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers in Idaho. My name is Sue Morgan. My husband & I, along with our 3 amazing kids, raise our four legged family in obedience and agility. Our kids love to showcase the dogs skills at our local shows, they have received several titles showcased on the Obedience/Agility page

Our main priority is ensuring the health, happiness, and well-being of all our animals. It starts with quality genetics in each dog before breeding. It continues through pregnancy, the birthing process, raising pups with ENS & puppy culture programs, picking the perfect family and lifestyle for each pup, sending them off with their new forever family, and will continue throughout the rest of their lives.

Our dogs are AKC registered and have all their health, genetic, DNA, and OFA testing done. We raise all our pups in a loving family home environment with ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) Programs & Puppy Culture Programs as stated above. We are here for ongoing support and want to build lifetime relationships.
